Carrying Out Your GAME Plan

As I stated in my previous blog, the two NETS criteria I based my GAME plan on were:

3c. communicate relevant information and ideas effectively to students, parents, and peers using a variety of digital-age media and formats, and

4a. advocate, model, and teach safe, legal, and ethical use of digital information and technology of sources including respect for copyright, intellectual property, and the appropriate documentation.

To carry out my GAME plan for the first criteria, I will need to modify or re-create my wikispace. It was also suggested from a classmate (Lyndsay Paisley) to use wix.com to create a website. After investigating Lyndsay's website, I can see the usefulness that the website would have to achieve the goal of parents communicating with me. There is a comment box that is sent to my email. I will also need to take the time necessary to keep the wiki or website up-to-date so that the students may use it as a resource to find missing assignmnets or notes from class. If I want the students to be able to help maintain "their" class wiki, I will need to have the proper permissions for the students to submit work online. I have not started working on this since we are on summer break.

The second criteria will force me to look at all of my "notes" for my lessons. I use flipcharts for my chapters which involve downloaded videos from Discovery Education and worksheets. I will have to try to re-locate these sources to cite them properly. I have to advocate and model the proper use of resources. When I teach citing sources properly, I plan to use activities from one of my Walden courses (text material). The activities will involve the students validating websites and properly citing sources. The only information I need is the sources of my videos and worksheets already embedded in my flipcharts....and TIME. Once again I have not started any of this since I am enjoying a much needed summer break.

  1. I am glad you are trying Wix out! If possible, would you post your website up when you get it done? I want to check it out. I love all that Wix has to offer and the graphics are very clear and great. You can also put up your own pictures if you want. I think because it is a Flash website that is what makes it so "pretty" so to speak. And amen on the summer break!

  2. Now I have to try wix.com. Thank you both for the recommendation I don't know what this is but your goal is similar to one of mine.

I thought our lessong on how to evaluate a webiste was very valuable. I can not wait to model this lesson for my students.

    5 weeks and counting YIKES!

  3. Teresa,
Thank you so much for sharing such a great site! Wix.com! I checked it out immediately and want to create my own for the upcoming school year. I especially love how you can keep a close communication with parents and students thru the use of the email and comments being linked! How neat!

  4. Terri,

I have not created a wiki for my classes or my school yet. I am starting to think I should. If you recall our course on Intergrating Tech. at Walden, you might want to model your class wiki after that group project. Here was ours:

In that project we inked as many resources as we could to one wiki asa group. Not only is this a good starting point for you, but also an idea for a class activity.

Being the tech. teacher, I get more referalls from students to great web pages than my colleagues. I usually just bookmark them in favorites as the come. I think that all the links I have bookmarked might make a useful resource for the teaching community around me at home.

  5. After investigating the wix.com website suggested by Lyndsay, I must admit that I was blown away. I have been looking for something just like this that would allow me to create a fully functional and useful website for my students and parents. I currently implement a bulletin board, but I would like to have more online content and this will be a great tool to use. The simplicity, flexibility, and usefulness of the website makes this a must-have for any 21st century educator. Also, once implemented, we can simply upload our notes or other electronic documents for further study or to help students who are absent.
